Blythe Alison Bowman Balestrieri, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice in the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government & Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University. With education and practical experience in both criminal justice and classical archaeology, Balestrieri is one of the first American criminologists whose research examines the problem of archaeological site looting as transnational crime.

She has published extensively on looting and the illicit antiquities trade, and helped to coordinate an international conference on organized crime in art and antiquities while serving as a key member on the planning committee of the International Scientific and Professional Advisory Council to the United Nations.
